A case of aortoenteric fistula following abdominal aortic reconstruction.

چکیده
We report the case of a 64-year-old male patient with graft-enteric fistula. This complication might have been induced by sigmoid colonic ischemia resulting from injury to the mesocolon during abdominal aortic reconstruction. Although sigmoid colonic exteriorization was performed to avoid simultaneous colonic resection, graft-enteric fistula could not be prevented. Two further emergent operations were required to obtain complete remission from this complication, comprising bilateral extra-anatomical axillofemoral bypass grafts and infected graft removal, followed by an operation for left common iliac artery stump disruption. Although the patient remained in good health for 3 years with no complications, he died of aortic stump disruption 43 months after the last operation.

An Aortoenteric Fistula Arising after Endovascular Management of a Mycotic Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Complicated with a Psoas Abscess
Mycotic aortic aneurysms account for 1–3% of all aortic aneurysms. The management of this disease is controversial. Since open surgical repair is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates, endovascular aneurysm repair is an alternative treatment method with promising early and midterm outcomes, although its long-term durability is unknown.Secondary aortoenteric fistulas may occur iatro...

Graft infection with secondary aortic fistula is a rare complication following implantation of aortic prostheses, frequently occurring after emergency procedures and reoperations. The condition is associated with considerable morbidity and mortality. Curative treatment consists of explantation of the infected graft followed by fistula revision and implantation of a new graft in combination with...
متن کاملAortoenteric fistula as a rare manifestation of rupture of an abdominal ?aortic aneurysm: Case report a diagnostic dilemma
Introduction: Secondary aortoenteric fistula (SAF) is an uncommon, but very important complication of abdominal aortic reconstruction. The complication often occurs months to years after aortic surgery. The clinical manifestation of the aortoenteric fistula is always upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Treatment of the disease is early surgical intervention. If operative treatment is not performed...
متن کاملPrimary Aortoenteric Fistula: A Rare Case of a Massive Gastrointestinal Bleed
Aortoenteric fistulas (AEFs) are deadly, abnormal connections between the aorta and gastrointestinal (GI) tract. While secondary aortoenteric fistulas (SAEFs) are more common and arise after aortic reconstruction, primary aortoenteric fistulas (PAEFs) are generally caused by abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs). PAEFs may present with self-limited GI bleeds called "herald bleeds," and the fistula ...
متن کاملAortoenteric fistula identified by clinical ultrasound.
BACKGROUND Aortoenteric fistula is a rare but serious cause of gastrointestinal bleeding. Early diagnosis and definitive treatment with fistula repair may improve patient outcomes. We report the use of point-of-care ultrasound to identify an aortoenteric fistula in a patient presenting with abdominal pain and shock. CASE REPORT A 78-year old man presented to the Emergency Department with abdo...

INTRODUCTION An aortoenteric fistula is a communication between the aorta and an adjacent loop of the bowel. Here we report a case with this rare complication with typical herald bleeding. CASE REPORT A 66-year-old man underwent elective repair of a large supra-renal abdominal aortic aneurysm and returned 6 months later to our clinic after experiencing a melena with hematochezia. The source o...
